Supporting Bible-Based Human Care and Youth Development Programs

We support effective strategies to meet the basic needs of the disadvantaged and people at risk of persistent poverty, delivered by Lutheran churches, church-affiliated organizations, and other Christian agencies. These ministries spread the Gospel and bring people in contact with Christ's love. In particular, we support:

  • Lutheran Site-Based Food Programs: To provide access to healthy food for families through the outreach pantries administered by many Lutheran congregations.
  • Neighborhood Outreach Ministry: To provide support to Lutheran churches and organizations ministering in neighborhoods filled with poverty, addiction, and hopelessness by bringing the love of Christ into their lives, neighborhoods, and homes.
  • Health and Wellness Ministry: To enable Lutheran churches and affiliated agencies to effectively minister to persons with disabilities, and to support parish nurses and other congregation-based health and wellness services where financial need is present.
  • Prison Ministry: To bring the love of Christ and the potential for redemption to the incarcerated, and to men and women returning to their communities after incarceration. Furthermore, to reduce recidivism, to educate the community to develop strong systems of support by building relationships, and to match individuals with compassionate volunteer mentors.
  • Youth Development Programs: To provide academic enrichment, healthy recreation, and faith formation opportunities to children and youth through Lutheran after-school and summer programs.

Priority is given to organizations whose approach is unique or who collaborate with others.
